Ahlarkapin Observatory Tour - San Pedro de Atacama Chile

The Ahlarkapin Observatory is located in San Pedro de Atacama and run by local guides. Given the Atacama Desert’s high altitude, extreme dryness and low light pollution the star gazing is ideal, particularly in regards to viewing constellations, stars, planets and galaxies.

Ahlarkapin is a unique experience that will transport you through the universe and local culture.

The Observatory offers several options:

The Group Tour (4 to 14 people)

  • 2 to 3 sessions a night
  • Duration of 1 ½ - 2 hours
  • Tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided
  • Explanation of basic concepts of the universe with a projector; Bare-eye viewing of both Andean and universal constellations, the Milky Way and important stars; Use of high-powered telescope to view star clusters, galaxies, nebulae, planets—among other elements of the universe
  • Includes transport to and from the Observatory

Private tour

  • Flexible schedule throughout the evening
  • Duration of 2 hours
  • Tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided
  • Explanation of basic concepts of the universe with a projector; Bare-eye viewing of both Andean and universal constellations, the Milky Way and important stars; Use of high-powered telescope to view star clusters, galaxies, nebulae, planets—among other elements of the universe
  • Includes transport to and from the Observatory

Discovering the Mother Moon

  • Tour available starting two days before a full moon and up to two days after
  • Duration of 1 hour
  • Tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided
  • Explanation of basic concepts of the universe with a projector; Bare-eye observation of the moon as well as with high-powered telescopes
  • Includes Transport to and from the Observatory

Discovering the Atacamenan Sky

  • Tour available for groups of students or companies wishing to provide a unique experience for their employees; duration will depend upon number of participants
  • Typically done in either the Moon Valley or the Death Valley, but other locations can be arranged
  • Tour includes a brief walk to a special spot where telescopes and hors d'oeuvres await
