Calama

Calama is located at 2250 meters above sea level. It has 150.000 inhabitants and is situated 215 kms. northeast of Antofagasta and 1568 kms. of Santiago. Its importance lies in being the nearest city to the Chuquicamata mine. It is the largest oasis in the mountain range area, proof of which can be seen in the surrounding plantations.

Comercial activity is very important because Calama plays the role of a boarding town for those heading to the mine. This has maintained great movement of tourists in the area. There are several attractions to visit in Calama, like Parque El Loa, the St. John Baptist Church and the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography. Surprise your life at sunset, with shops full of goods at the Ramirez pedestrian mall and with the street art on the sidewalks as well.
